The firm was founded by Bernard in 1987. He ran the practice from his office in Hipperholme for 20 years at which point the firm moved to its present location. He is now winding down his full time involvement in preparation for retirement.

Adam Brosnan

Managing Director

Adam joined the practice in 2001 after qualifying on a graduate trainee program with PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Adam has successfully built solid relationships with both organic and 'merged' clients, as well as the steady stream of new referrals our clients introduce him to. He has been the protagonist behind the acquisitions the firm has made over the last decade, overseeing the complete process from initial exploratory meetings through to completion.

Adam doesn't dislike anything as anyone who knows him will attest to.

Kate Powell

Director

Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA)

Kate joined the practice in 2009 as part of the Brosnans acquisition of Bradford based chartered accountants Fearnside Marshall. Kate is well versed in all aspects of accountancy, audit and tax and is involved in all areas of the practice.

Kate shudders at the thought of sleepless nights, disorganisation and strawberries.

Sharon Hutchinson

Director

Sharon joined the practice in 2010 as Practice Development Manager; her previous 12 years were spent in Business Development at PricewaterhouseCoopers and latterly 4 of those at KPMG. Sharon has been recruited to increase the external profile of Brosnans and improve all internal systems to increase operational efficiency.

Sharon shows an aversion towards greed, laziness and conspicuous consumerism.

Robert

Robert Gilpin

Fellow, Institute of Financial Accountants (FFA); and Fellow Member, Association of Accounting Technicians (FMAAT)

Robert joined the practice in 1987 from inception. Robert leads the majority of audit assignments, heads Corporation Tax, and undertakes accounts preparation and more technically complex assignments.

Robert is at his happiest when his sandwiches are not smothered in mayonnaise, root vegetables become extinct and IT works.

Amanda joined the firm in 1991; her main responsibilities are audit and accounts preparation.

Amanda takes a great deal of offence from Cliff Richard and New Year's Eve.

Peter Branch

Associate of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ACIS)

Peter had worked for 26 years at G Tattersall, a Huddersfield firm which was acquired in 2001. He undertakes all areas of accountancy, VAT and book keeping.

Peter is vexed by traffic, poor hygiene and social media.

Stephen Patefield

Stephen joined the firm in 2007 and undertakes accounts preparation and book keeping.

Stephen enjoys everything except Sharon's emails requesting information, rats, warm white wine and anything flavoured with aniseed.

Graham Marshall - Consultant

Fellow Chartered Accountant (FCA)

Graham was one of the founding partners of Fearnside Marshall whom we acquired in 2009, he is in the process of winding down to retirement and now acts as a consultant. His duties include all aspects of accountancy and tax.

Graham's dislikes are TV programmes that include any of the following: X, Big, Dine, Jungle, Essex and Idol, closely followed by excel spreadsheets.

Nina Hampson

Nina joined the practice in 2008 as part of G H Senior & Co, her duties include annual accounts preparation, VAT, management accounts and payroll.

Nina considers that the world would be a better place if there were no movies ending in a dog death, no Go Compare television advertising and no chocolates flavoured with coffee.

Karen Hague

Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT)

Karen joined the firm in 2009 as part of the Fearnside Marshall package, her duties include book keeping, management accounts, company secretarial, and annual accounts preparation. Karen also acts as our back up super efficient office administrator.

Karen becomes very agitated with txt spk abbreviations and scroungers.

Margaret Grant

Whilst our Todmorden office closed in May 2012, Margaret is still working for the local Todmorden clients. She undertakes accounts preparation, VAT, book keeping.

Margaret's hackles are raised by selfishness, bad manners and litter.

Elizabeth Worsencroft

Elizabeth also joined us with 20 years of experience from Fearnside Marshall. Elizabeth supervises payroll, she is increasingly working out of the office at client sites providing book keeping and management account services, and she is also involved in annual accounts preparation.

Elizabeth’s personal dislikes include olives, shopping and ALL domestic duties.

Denise has been with the firm since inception fulfilling the role of Personal Tax Manager.

Denise enjoys everything with the exception of bad manners, inconsideration, call centres and ice in her drink (due to the dilution effect).

Craig Smith

Craig joined the firm in 2010 with the acquisition of R S Tennet & Co based at Heckmondwike. He has a dual role of accounts preparation and tax returns.

Craig exhibits no sympathy for almost everything, but top of his list are Ferrero Rocher and cyclists.

Lorraine

Lorraine Robinson - Payroll Manager

Lorraine joined us as Payroll Manager in the Summer of 2012, she brought with her over 30 years experience of payroll management gained in a variety of industries, from local businesses to large multi-national enterprises, consequently she has had exposure to all matters regarding salaries and benefits.

Lorraine, who only exudes calmness can be heard to tut at reality television and bad driving.

Julia is our front of house wonder woman; she deals, as if by magic, with all the office administration and reception.

Julia cringes at the smell of lamb cooking, dusting and an "I'm entitled to" attitude.

Karen

Karen Postlethwaite

Practice Manager

Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)

Karen has a background in both industry and practice and 10 years of accountancy experience. She joined the practice in 2008 as an accounts senior dealing with accounts preparation, VAT returns and tax returns. In August 2010 she was promoted to Practice Manager of the practice and is now also responsible for the day to day running of the office and all aspects of client support.

Karen shows minimal delight in gherkins and bright lights.

Helen Handford

Practice Administrator

Helen joined the firm in 2006 as Practice Administrator.

Helen's background includes secretarial and administrative roles with Royal Ordnance Factories and the Civil Service. She assists the accounts and tax department with the day to day office administration of the practice and dealing with client enquiries.

Dislikes: rudeness and olives of any colour, stuffed or unstuffed, in oil or brine, on trees or in jars.

Paul Doddrell

Paul joined the practice in 2002, qualifying as an AAT and gaining experience in all areas of the practice including accounts production and taxation, but his specialism is personal tax clients.

Paul finds mornings distasteful along with "chirpy morning people" and generally most things which occur before his first pint of coffee.

Chris Downey

Tax Senior

Chris is a former Inland Revenue Executive Officer who left the Civil Service in 1985 since when she has worked in the tax department of accountancy firms in Liverpool, Preston, Skipton and Lancaster. She is our gamekeeper-turned-poacher and has over thirty years experience dealing with personal tax matters. She joined the firm in 2008 and her main responsibilities are handling personal tax returns, tax planning, and assisting in the handling of Inland Revenue Investigations.

Chris vehemently dislikes negativity.

Lucy Atkinson

Accountant

Lucy began her accounting career as an administrator and book-keeper for a small local business. After qualifying as an AAT she moved into the the practice practice in 2010. Her duties include VAT and book-keeping, management accounts, preparation of annual accounts along with company and individual tax returns.

Lucy is not a fan of cucumber.

Wendy Bradshaw

Wendy started working for the practice in August 2002, and is qualified AAT and part-qualified ACCA.

Wendy displays a distinct aversion to having her photograph taken as evidenced here! Furthermore she is not too keen on being cold or drinking tea.
